Beware of Claims Sharks

An investigation by The War Horse and NPR found that dozens of for-profit “claims-consulting” firms continue to charge disabled veterans for helping with disability-benefit claims, even though the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has repeatedly warned many of those firms that such fees may be illegal. Despite more than 40 warnings over the past decade, at least 29 of the 38 companies flagged as potentially unlawful are still operating, often with active websites and social media. The War Horse
